Hudson-Essex Nephrology is committed to providing you with the best treatment available. Inclusively, our billing/insurance office is available to discuss any questions you may have regarding your insurance or your account.

patients-medicareHudson-Essex participates in the Medicare Program. As a Medicare patient, you are responsible for your deductible and for the difference between the approved charge and the amount Medicare pays. If you have supplemental insurance, we will bill it for you. Any remaining balance will be your responsibility and billed to you.

Participating Insurance Plans (HMO/PPO/Commercial)

patients-insurance-plansDrs. Stephen Thomsen and Haroon Rashid both participate with many insurance plans. They are listed in your group‟s provider list if we are participating in your plan. It‟s always a good idea to confirm whether or not we accept your insurance by either contacting our office or your insurance plan directly.

We will bill your insurance directly and receive payment directly from them. However, to avoid any confusion, be aware that we expect payment of any applicable deductibles, co-payments or co-insurance amounts at the time of service. Also, any services that your insurance will not cover are the patient‟s responsibility for payment. Our billing department is available to discuss any questions you may have regarding your insurance or your account at Hudson-Essex Nephrology.

Co-payments and Deductibles

patients-paymentsAll patients must be prepared to make the necessary payment arrangements to cover any co-payments or deductibles as dictated by your insurance plan at the time of service.

Additionally, you will be asked to make payment on any outstanding balances due at the time of service. We have professional billing staff to answer any questions you might have. For your convenience, we accept cash, check, MasterCard, and Visa.

Referrals and Authorizations

patients-referralsHudson-Essex Nephrology participates in many managed health care plans with which we honor contracted fees arrangements. Please be advised that, according to managed care organizations, all patients must obtain a referral from their primary care physician in order to see a specialist. It is the patient‟s responsibility to secure the initial referral as well as keep up with the number of follow-up visits allowed and the expiration dates on your referrals. Failure to present an authorization for services may result in having to reschedule your appointment.

patients-self-payPayment is expected at the time of service if you do not have insurance. For your convenience, the office accepts cash, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover, and personal checks. To discuss establishing a payment arrangement, please contact the Practice Manager prior to your visit.

In addition, to protect you from possible identity theft and to maintain compliance with new Federal laws, the office staff will ask all new patients for a photo ID from a government agency, such as a drivers license, passport, military ID, etc., at the time of the appointment.
